Germination of Cotton Seed in Relation to Temperature1
The effect of constant temperature on the germination rate and percentage of two cotton seed lots was determined using a thermogradient plate. A gradient of 10 oC to 40 oC was established across the plate so that temperatures changed 2 oC for each 5 cm increment in length, resulting in sixteen different temperature treatments. The optimal temperature zone for germination was 28 oC to 30 oC. As ...

15 صفحه اولBiotic and Abiotic Limits to the Spread of Exotic Revegetation Species
Natural habitats vary in the degree to which they are invaded by exotic species, but it is unclear whether they differ in the mechanisms underlying the spatial spread of a given exotic species. To compare the dynamics of invasion in highly invaded nonserpentine oak woodlands and less-invaded serpentine habitats, we used an historical ‘‘experiment’’ consisting of the introduction of several nonn...
متن کاملOsmopriming Improves Spinach Seed Germination under Environmental Stress
Seed priming has been suggested to improve germination performance under temperature or water stress. The objective of this study was to develop an optimal osmopriming protocol for spinach (Spinacia oleracea L. cv. Bloomsdale) seeds and examine its effect on the germination performance at suboptimal and supraoptimal temperatures, and under water stress. Standard germination tests at optimal ger...
متن کاملAtEXP2 Is Involved in Seed Germination and Abiotic Stress Response in Arabidopsis
Expansins are cell wall proteins that promote cell wall loosening by inducing pH-dependent cell wall extension and stress relaxation. Expansins are required in a series of physiological developmental processes in higher plants such as seed germination. Here we identified an Arabidopsis expansin gene AtEXPA2 that is exclusively expressed in germinating seeds and the mutant shows delayed germinat...
